Shift Nudge Design Program
Shift Nudge is a design program created by Matt D. Smith that helped me to become a better UI designer, where I learned the systematic process and visual skills of creating beautiful and functional user interfaces. The course consisted of 7 modules: typography, layout, color, style, imagery, elements and tactics. Every module contained around 10 lessons, specifically related to that module's topic. Below are select works from each module.
Typography
Hierarchy
This is a "leader board" for a BBQ championship. The ranking system is based on a highest score and the bold font weight indicates that it's the main element in the hierarchy.
Layout
Scale, Weight and Hierarchy
This is a movie browsing desktop webpage. I chose Sandra Bullock's movies as she is one of my favorite actresses. The heaviest element on the screen is the poster of a movie "Bird Box" with a large font size. It also has a yellow call to action button to command attention.
Color
Dark UI
This is a design of a conceptual "Settings" screen for controlling a coffee cup "SmartMug" via a mobile device. Initially I designed it as a light mode version. I had to refine my design many times to adjust it to the dark mode. I experimented with different grays, blacks and whites to make it stand out on the dark screen.
Imagery
Illustrations
Here is a simple illustration of a Macbook Air I created. I used simple shapes and experimented with colors and lighting to achieve a realistic look. The webpage was also created by me as a part of an imagery class.
Style
Borders and Dividers
This is a mobile screen with a list of contacts. I experimented with dividers to separate the content. this is the design I liked best from all my trials.
Elements
Sorting and Filtering
This is a desktop version of a conceptual company that helps investors gain more knowledge about different types of investing. It shows the list of courses together with filtering options.
