Fritz Dietl Ice Skating rink is a family-owned business located in Westwood, New Jersey. The goal was to design a simple site that is easy to navigate and doesn’t confuse customers. I was referred to Fritz Dietl from my previous customer Village Green restaurant. I worked with the rink manager, we discussed goals, and the vision for the site. I designed and built the site in Webflow. I communicated with a manager throughout the design process. After the site was built, I was responsible for its maintenance and changes.

The initial design of the home page included 5 navigation items. It had an alternating format for the cards. After careful consideration, I decided to keep 3 main items and move the rest to the top navigation menu. Too many cards alternating back and forth became too much for the eyes.  

The image on the right is the official logo of the rink. The manager asked me if we could use it for the website. It was designed for a sign on the building, it won’t scale down enough to be legible on the website. She asked me if I could come up with something better. Since I was hired for the website design, logo design was a separate task, and the client was on a strict budget. So, I came up with the simple wordmark for the site.  The client wanted a simple color scheme that represents iceskating. The color scheme I chose is below. For typography I chose Poppins font.

I am currently maintaining this site. The hockey programs are flyers that are designed by vendors. I chose to incorporate the data from the flyers into the look and feel of the site. After the site went live the vendors provided feedback that they wanted their flyers displayed on the site.

The manager constanlty changes the content, it is challenging to keep the site true to it's look and feel with constant updates.
